Information kiosks for disabled set up in Delhi hospitals

Dr. Cajetan CoelhoTuesday, July 01, 2008

Such kiosks to provide information could be set up in every major hospital in our country. Pamphlets, leaflets, information folders and such type of awareness creating literature could be displayed in temples, mosques, gurudwaras, churches and even at the counters in star hotels across the length and width of our country.

Cricketers can opt out if they are tired, says BCCI

Manapakkam MukundhanMonday, June 30, 2008

Its unfortunate that the BCCI has offered the cricketer to go away, if they feel tired. After 1985 Australia's mini world cup win, for the past 23 years, I could not win even a single world cup. MS Dhoni has created a new world record for winning the first T20 World cup. Any of his opinion should be taken in the right direction. But, BCCI has acted in a way that their reply recollects us the Colonial regime, under the British. BCCI should remember that our players are not bonded labourers of BCCI. BCCI should mind its business in its appropriate way.

Lead dignified life to avoid AIDS: Shankaracharya

MMK RaoSunday, June 29, 2008

Sexual promiscuity is at the root of HIV/AIDS.Though it is a universal and timeless aberration in human civilization. The multiplication of population has resulted in attendant pressures all around which are only slightly neutralized by technological devices.Unscrupulous business is taking the vilest advantage of these pressures to sell sex as a commodity and uses it as an expression of liberty. Only society acting as a strong single entity can put down these antisocial business practices.

Sri Lanka needs to do more on devolution, says India

SaravanSaturday, June 28, 2008

Re your Report on Sri Lanka needs to do more than 13th Amendment etc. This makes no sense now because the Indo-Sri Lanka Accord and 13th Amendment have been rendered dead as a doornail and buried by the present government. It has been legally done and being done administratively and even physically on the ground by ethnic cleansing of Tamils in border villages between the north and east and settlements of Sinhalas with active government support and services under military occupation. It is therefore difficult to understand what these so-called cloud cuckoo land talks between the Indian delegation and Sri Lanka are all about. It sounds like a circus act. That is what all the warring and killings in the killing fields of the north and east and gross human rights violations are all about under the guise of so-called ongoing "war on terror". India seems to be closing its eyes to ground realities and resorting to an appeasement foreign policy and going along with Sri Lanka playing for more time until genocide is made more complete. What is really needed is to support the UN for the right of the Tamil people to democratically exercise the "right of self-determination through a UN based and supervised referendum under international humanitarian law". This would be the most humane solution to a much vexed and debilitating civil ethnic, religious and land conflict rather than through a fascist sectarian approach as done hitherto.

A general comment about public works when the work is exwecuted by a state agency is that the public NEVER get the true value for their money since the endproducts turn out to be substandard and inferior, causing too much maintenance and user discomfort, not to speak of their ugly designs.Lot lot money changes hands among politicians, govt.officials, contractors as kickbacks, serious flaws slurred over, etc.Ambanis' infighting is cited but real reason is shillyshallying by officialdom due to turning back all bidders.

Go slow on n-deal, save government, PM advised

Paul KristMonday, June 23, 2008

The nuke deal with suitable clauses for safeguarding national security has been kept pending for long. This is the most important issue. Fall of govt. sooner or later is not of the essence. Newer coalition configurations cannot be ruled out based on sharing of power among different parties since our democratic politics really is bereft of ideologies whatever they are professed to be. The only aim for our democracy should be to ensure full employment and eradication of poverty and justice for all, with a firm commitment to our national cultural heritage with peace for all.

Education first and last mantra for development of Muslims

MMK raoMonday, June 23, 2008

As the 'first and last mantra' education of Muslims will be only effective if the syllabuses at different stages for them include the irrelevance of many medievalist religious notions that they are being indoctrinated with today as though Muslims are not the same type of human beings borne and living on this earth as their brethren happening to be borne in other religions like Sikhism,Christianity, Hinduism, etc.they must include content to educate them on the fact that god is one and the same for all mankind and the accident of birth in Islam or other religion should not become a tool for Jihadic fanaticism and backwardness by discarding science even where tremendous growht of populations on earth demands use of technology for sheer existence and reasonable comfort.

Kashmir land transfer controversy: Separatists under house arrest

Islamic separatists have tasted the efficacy of their narrowmindedness and fanataticism with terorirsm, or, as in this case, forceful use of democratic methods, for fanning communal flames and separatism. these elements do not deserve democratic meathods like police actions, court trials, etc. for dealing with their separatist demands and Jihadi methods rooted in distorted interpretation of medievalist Jihad.

Bihar official found dead in mysterious condition

MMK raoMonday, June 23, 2008

This case in Bihar which is prima facie one of murder is not a lone one of its kind nor this type of crimes is confined to Bihar. All over India, competitive and public exam.papers are tampered with or inserted with substitutes by interested candidates as the concerned officials get very handsome money for doing so. Non obliging by any honest officer or responsible person is threated with murder and MLAs, MPs intervene at different stages of these crimes to take their cut, but the criminals of course do not 'oblige' indignant or affected public with legally valid proofs and evidences which can be produced in courts if cases are to be filed to demand justice. It is almost too late India can be saved from corruption.

Exiled Tibetans use internet as weapon against China

It is intereting to read that exiled tibetans are using the internet to fight a 'virtual war' against the Chinese. Also on the same front, Indian soldiers were reported to fight the Chinese trying to intrude into Indian territory with 'satyagraha' (without weapons and forming a human chain). Gandhian-like methods used on these occasions evoke astonishment in this time and age. But it remains to be seen if they work as they did against the British/

McLeodganj goes global sans basic facilities

Dr. Cajetan CoelhoFriday, June 20, 2008

Tibetan food, artefacts, souvenirs, lengthy sessions for prayer and meditation at the main monastery, admiration for the Tibetan officers at the reception desks at the various buildings of the Tibetan Government in exile are some of my finest memories of McLeodganj. In the good old days, there used to be a neatly maintained Provision Shop opposite the Bus Stand. The shop owners were an elderly Parsi couple whom I found to be oral sources for rich historical information. In a few face to face encounters with the erudite couple, one could listen and learn a lot about Mcleodganj and the high points of its history of over half a century. The revered Parsi couple were eye witnesses to the beginnings and emergence of McLeodganj as a center for happenings. The HP State administration could find ways and means to widen or shift the Bus Stand to a new and more spacious location.

A professional, enterprising face of Indian Muslims

Paul KristThursday, June 19, 2008

Indian Muslims (and Christians) are brethren, being many generations ago, converts for various reasons such as religious propaganda,inducements/threats to life, etc.apart from the desire for trying a different spiritual alternative. They are sons of the soil of Indian culture and thought. It is not surprising if achievers in various fields are found in all religious groups. Individuals' self-discipline and authentic guidance and/or support, apart from hard work, do wonders and result in excellence. The majority/minority and casteist criteria are mostly the work of politicians as they rival among themselves for power, and seek votes with a divisive strategy.

N-deal endgame: key allies support PM, Left adamant

MMK RaoThursday, June 19, 2008

The communist parties' adamance against finalization and sealing of the nuke deal reminds us of previous decades when they behaved in the most foolhardy manner. Computerization in banks was being introduced gradually. Labour unions instigated by the com.parties resorted to violent and destructive tactics by breaking the computers and causing widespread damages.Today the unions demand more of the computers. The Cong.'s unofficially reported decision to prefer spurning of Com.support to coalition govt. and sealing a finalized nuke deal is in better economic interests of India. The emerging scenario largely justifies the deal. However, suitable clauses to secure national security needs must be there in the final deal.

'Small banks will survive challenges from big players'

MMK RaoThursday, June 19, 2008

Large banks often indulge in overcharging in penalties for customer defaulting in payment for their services, their staff, well clad with ties and what not, put up airs and tend to get slip shod with their customers who are thus obliged, for ex. to pester for more details. ATM facilties often go down for some reason or the other. Too frequent mailed solicitations for this or that new service. These are a few illustrations of the numerous complaints on large banks caused largely by their complacency due to large size and indifference to individual customers' sensibilities.Small banks are well equipped to beat the large competitors by avoiding latter's customer unfriendly ways.

'Moderate' Advani vs 'hardliner' Rajnath Singh

AmbikrishnanWednesday, June 18, 2008

The dilemma in Indian politics is that after allowing Pakistan to secede from United India on religious basis, India is happy home to a Muslim population exceeding that of Pakistan itself.Yet the existence of too many terrorists or fanatics indoctrinated to to support as links to foreign based ones poses a constant danger. No party claiming to be secular can afford to speak so vociferously for minorities and simultaneously ignoring the most dangerous antinational elements among them. Mr Ganguly must educate himself in this regard before venturing to interpret news arbitrarily as he has done here.

For ex. tapping of new energy sources, esply.renewable ones like solar, wind, solar cell, etc.becomes extremely important, andTECHNOLOGY comes to our rescue. But politicians being generally self-seeking forces, impede in this, foolishly. Religion hinders a bit,but Hinduism at least keeps adapting itself to technology without losing its spiritual essence.

Indian awards will overtake Oscars: Kamal Haasan

JJ JohnWednesday, June 18, 2008

WE Indians look incapable of getting Nobel Prizes except for peace and literture for which national prizes will be meaningful. In films,we can institute something like BHARAT PURASKAR and advertise that it is the equivalent of OSCARs.We can give this to film producers who bribe the Puraskar committee maximum. This can be equivalent of IgNobel prizes awarded in the West.

Indian awards will overtake Oscars: Kamal Haasan

Usha KhannaWednesday, June 18, 2008

At worst both THEIR and OUR films are mostly culturally degrading with impact of producing hallucinations and of demoralizing character, and perverting and weakening entire society.THEIR films score better technically almost always, and SOME of them are unbeatably good and elevating even to ordinary thinking people.OUR FILMS ARE NEITHER INDIAN NOR UNINDIAN, which exposes their inferiority.Mr Kamal, consider.

MuthukaruppanWednesday, June 18, 2008

The Congress should immediately dissolve its existing alliance configuration and combine forces with the BJP, with a CMp for the rest of the tenure. The nuke deal can be pushed through then, with some modifications suggd. by BJP.Kerala and Bengal outfits' support is in effect hindering progress of whole nation, and this MUST BE PUT AN END TO.

Tamil Nadu politics and its galaxy of cine stars

MuthukaruppanWednesday, June 18, 2008

Cine actors, actresses, etc.,as citizens, have,in principle, all democratic rights incdg.starting parties, contesting polls, etc. However, most of them are not in films for positive, but negative reasons (making a living which was not possible otherwise).Reel roles arae unrealistically formulated for public titillation and make actors and audience alike take illusions for real possibilities, which is NOT TRUE.People can only go down the drain by favouring 'actor-politicians.'

Height is not everything, Mr Houghton

Brooks DonnerTuesday, June 17, 2008

After hearing about the exploits of young Raleng, national coach Bob Houghton could be tempted to take a closer look at the Assam Rifles goal-poacher. Houghton has gone on record he would prefer taller men, but let him not forget two of his best strikers are on the shorter side, namely Baichung Bhutia and Sunil Chhetri. Raleng, at 5ft 8in is a little taller.

Banks will waive farm loans by June 30: Chidambaram

Paul KristTuesday, June 17, 2008

Before actual waivers of loans, the Fin Minister must ensure that his administration collects all relevant data so that bogus documentations and the like especially by politicians and their kith and kin and benamis relating to land ownership and incomes do not get a chance to eat up the benefits of the waivers.

Sun TV battles after DMK enforced blackout

Paul KristTuesday, June 17, 2008

make a CENTRAL LAW so that privatization will also cover confiscation of properties like mass TV channel companies of bigtime politicians/bansmis.The properties should be sold to groups known for a commitment to culture and good of society not goaded by mere profitability even by vulgarizing great traditions.

Karnataka MLA blames friend in wife's death

MuthukaruppanTuesday, June 17, 2008

Piecing out this episode of heart-rending tragedy:1:MrAtul Rao appears like a crafty young man with pulsating sexual urges rather let loose, and contractor by profession He took ill advantage of the Bhat couple's marital problem by maneuvering the disappoinments casually expressed by the good-looking Padma from a high culture background. He had histrionic skills with which he tried to cover up his evil deeds.

Drunken driving survivor freed on bail

Paul KristMonday, June 16, 2008

Whenever there is a tragic news involving road accidents and street/pub brawls ending in deaths of youth, the one immediate thought which comes to our mind is the highly irresponsible and antisocial interests of liquor barons, who combine forces with cricket or mass audience events for their publicity. And this is the land of Mahatma Gandhi.Unless these rich liquor barons desist from this macabre method of publicity, indeed close down their liquor business Indian youth who are already mediocre in many high-end fields of technology, and management innovations, and science discoveries, our country will go down the drain as a huge land mass of unwanted populations and a burden on earth's resources. It is astonishing that it has not occurred to any NGOs.who are "championing" so many other causes,to fight out these barons.

Tamil film body poll to be fought on party lines

Subrahmanya JoshiMonday, June 16, 2008

Both parties declare allegiance to Mr EV Ramaswami, who is believed to be an atheist but in fact a hater of certain classes of people whom he equated as intermediaries before God, which was, in turn due to his frustration in his style of politics mixed with an overdose of his social reform notions. Under these circumstances the fighting of polls for the Tamil film body is as absurd as it is against the upliftment of Tamil people, since films are one medium at once reflecting, and moulding on enlightened lines, the culture of the Tamil people in consonance with the big picture of Indian culture.

After Bangalore, Volvo eyes other Indian cities

AmbikrishnanMonday, June 16, 2008

The proposals to widen the usage of Volvo vehicles for public transport should not divert to the least our efforts to plan and execute drastic reforms and development of the road infrastucture. The pathetic condition of roads, despite so much talk of massive projects for their development, needs no repetition here. A central authority for road infrastructure development with key decision and implementation powers overriding the states which hold much of the powers in this sector, is of paramount importance. Too much stress on upgraded vehicles at the expense of this prime need will be putting the cart before the horse.

Sun TV battles after DMK enforced blackout

Krishen SharmaSunday, June 15, 2008

If politicians/ relatives control TV channels, the so called mass media can only be their respective mouthpieces that are thrust down the throats of the public. This will be against all democratic principles. Now it is Tamil Nadu, tomorrow it can be another, and soon, the whole of India will not even have a chance to know the truth and form an opinion on facts.Politicians employ musclemen, hence they cannot be allowed to run businesses, especially TV channels.

Some 900 projects in India hit by delays; extra cost Rs.368 bn

AmbikrishnanSaturday, June 14, 2008

Reporting of cost and time overruns of costs in the country's different economic sectors has become a mere routine ritual and nothing more, since absolutely no strong action based on hard-nosed criticism in detail of project ismanagement on individual and sectorral bases is ever undertaken, but only vague conclusions are reached that can be of little earthly use.Drastic overhaul of existing methods and procedures to institute far more effective systems for shortlisting of bidders from among proven reliable ones,in-process monitoring of equipment manufacture to ensure quality equipment delivery a bit earlier, not later, than stipulated deadlines,is sorely required and is long overdue, apart from plugging all loopholes and an eagle's eye to prevent delays before occurrence in all matters,if tax payer's money is not to be squandered so callously as now through delayed and malfunctioning projects.ERADICATE BUREAUCRATIC AAPPROACH EVERYWHERE THAT ENCOURAGES CAUSES OF COSTLY OVERRUNS.

Sun TV battles after DMK enforced blackout

MuthukaruppanSaturday, June 14, 2008

Ownership of major satellite television channels in Tamilnadu being divided among politicians (major parties AIADMK & DMK, and minor ones PMK, Cong.etc) bodes ill for public health of Tamils, and politics if it is to be done based on democratic principles and if the state's foundation is not to be shaken by untruth and distortions on repots of same events.Conflicting news barrages and politically intensified competition in serials with harmful and worthless content, are already taking toll of public health and peace in Tamilnadu families most of which cannot afford exclusive room for TV.

Indian scientists secular, but firm believers in god: survey

M BalakrishnanSaturday, June 14, 2008

There is a strong belief that great scientists are borne most often in family lines behind them, with the strictest observance of spiritual principles which some religious sects espouse. It is most often believed unfashionable among scientists, and therefore unscientific, for a scientist to talk of any subjective experiencing of an empathy with, or express honestly his conviction of, a God as a universal, all powerful, time transcending entity, with or without a form.At least the ageless Upanishads, a vital pillar of Hindu thought, proclaim that through devoted contemplation (Upaasanaa) one can have a glimpse of the Divine which evades all description in words, numbers, etc.The greatest of scientists are inspired by such thoughts as they continue with their research to understand not just the how, but also the why, of universal laws already discovered and being added from time to time, sometimes being dropped in favour of correct new ones. A FIRST RATE SCIENTIST SUCH AS ALBERT EINSTEIN HAD A PROFOUND SENSE OF MARVEL AT A DIVINE ENTITY THAT GOVERN SO MANY PERFECT LAWS OF THE VISIBLE UNIVERSE, EVEN IF MAN YET DOES NOT KNOW EXPRESSING THEM IN WORDS AND NUMEBRS, by processes of counting and measuring.

Pranab says no to Gorkhaland demand

MuthukaruppanSaturday, June 14, 2008

One way to convince people demanding Gorkhaland that it is not a desirable for a tiny place like Darjeeling district to desire thus, will be to integrate with neighbouring States, the former European enclaves now wastefully governed with astronomically wasteful expenditure on govt.administration:for ex.Puducheri govt. must be dismantled and merged with Tamilnadu. There are numerous cases like this.

CBI probe demanded into Aarushi murder

Usha KhannaSaturday, June 14, 2008

Mr Mukundan can take heart that such suicides have not happened whether we in India, or even people to whom English is supposedly mother-tongue,most remarkably int eh US, write using the privilege to write on websites.'The Vision' 's case seems to be of a person throbbing with thoughts which after all could prove useful if the suggested CBI probe into Arushi murder is done.Ultimately sense is more important than the word. Most often nonsense is nice to read as it is couched in spicy English sparkling due to the best idioms and phrases used by the writer.People like 'The Vision' writing sense but in bad English may be pardoned since

Dentist arrested for murder of daughter, domestic help

euniceSaturday, June 14, 2008

Clearly, Inspector General Singh was a fool.In this day and age, he should have thought of his welfare rather than 'actually' trying to solve the crime.Honesty never pays. The reasons for his transfer are baseless and dont make sense. The violent nature of the crime does not indicate a cool pre meditated crime.Everyone in India except the CBI seem to know that Dr.Talwar commited this heinous crime.

'Moderate' Advani vs 'hardliner' Rajnath Singh

NandanSaturday, June 14, 2008

Wonder if Mr. Ganguly could also provide us ignorant leaders with his valued comments on the prospects of the secular Congress. Having decided that Mr. Advani is a bad man, Mr. Ganguly has concluded that Mr. Advani is incorrigible and and incapable of a change in outlook.

Sun TV battles after DMK enforced blackout

Manapakkam MukundhanFriday, June 13, 2008

It is right time that the Marans takeup the Madurai Dinakaran Office attack case very seriously and put the culprits behind bars without waiting any signal from the DMK President, though Dayanidhi belongs to DMK. As an MP from Chennai Central Parliamentary constituency, he could even pursue the Central government to intervene at the Parliament level. This will only stop the atrocities of the Big Brother at the South Tamilnadu.

Energy security will be major factor for global power play: PM

sudhir suriThursday, June 12, 2008

The concern of PM at this stage could be due to the following 1. Prices have become 150 UDS . Being a seasoned economist the Govt should have taken steps in the first yr of rule.Reacting at this late stge shows the stratergic failure 2.to facilitate signing of the nuclear deal . If the Parliament is against it,then other steps needed to be thought . I i was the PM ,I would stop staff car and make officials use scooters . Govt has the power to implement its decision. Stop big cars . Stop Malls the energy guzzlers.
